Ensign has now submitted a planning application to Daventry District Council to create sustainable urban extension to Northampton at Buckton Fields - an area of land allocated for residential development in the Daventry Local Plan.
The scheme would offer a mix of two, three and four bedroom houses and apartments with provision for retail and commercial sector elements, a primary school, park & ride, residential care home and open public spaces to create a fully functioning vibrant community.
Bordered to the west by the A5199 and to the east by the A508, Buckton Fields is located approximately 4.5km from Northampton town centre, immediately to the north of the existing residential district of White Hills, which lies within the boundary of Northampton Borough Council. However, the Buckton Fields site itself lies within the boundary of Daventry District, therefore the outline planning application has been submitted to Daventry District Council.
The Government has set substantial targets for Northampton in respect of its housing needs as part of a strategy for sustainable growth. Buckton Fields has been identified as one of the most sustainable locations for sensitive development to address the town's housing needs, and its specific allocation for new housing in the Daventry District Local Plan was advocated by the then Secretary of State in September 2007.
As part of this, development at the site would help reinvigorate the local economy, as well as delivering the much needed homes in the area, including provision for affordable housing.
